SunTrust Bank & Kiwanis Clubs Present the
Triple Crown Contest
The Kiwanis Clubs in Winchester,
Lawrenceburg and Pulaski along with SunTrust Bank will be awarding the
Triple Crown winner a cash prize of $3,000.00 and a trophy at High on
the Hog Festival in Winchester TN this year. Four years ago, these
clubs banded together along with SunTrust Bank to have an additional
contest for teams that competed in all of these Kiwanis Club’s KCBS
contests. The team that competes in all three cities and has the
best cumulative point average in the four KCBS meat categories will win.
The Triple Crown and Team awards
will be presented Saturday, April, 19 at 4 PM on the pavilion stage in
the Winchester City Park and everyone is invited to attend.
Pulaski’s contest is known as the
Sundrop Country “State Championship” BBQ Cook-Off. This will be
their fourth year for this event. The contest will be held the
second weekend of May at the Giles County Agri Park. Along with
the professional KCBS Contest they will also have an amateur BBQ contest
where cooks can try their skills with chicken and pork ribs.
Several other events are
scheduled in addition to the BBQ contest at the Agri Park. The Goodchild
Band will be on stage Friday night. Treasurer hunters will be
excited to find all kinds of goodies at the Barbeque Bazaar and Artisans
Festival that will feature real artisans from the hills and hollows.
World class BBQ will be sold on Friday night and Saturday to satisfy the
biggest of appetites. Youngsters can take their turn cooking in
the Kid’s Q event or just have fun in the kids’ activity area.
Proceeds will go to the Giles County Development Center EI Services that
help children from infancy to three years with learning disabilities.
So drive on over and spend a day or two in Pulaski.
Lawrenceburg’s A T & T Tennessee
State Championship BBQ contest has been going on for seventeen years.
The first ten years the contest was held on the town square then was
moved to Rotary Park for the last seven years when they joined the
Kansas City Barbeque Society. Along with the professional KCBS
team cook-off, there will be a back yard contest on the weekend of June
27 & 28. Proceeds from this event are to benefit The Child
Advocacy Center - a facility to help children that are victims of
crimes, to get treatment and assistance with the court process.
Other groups helped by the
Kiwanis Club include Ingram Sowell School, Lawrenceburg Babe Ruth and
youth football to name a few.
